Mallorca a 'sophisticated' holiday destination

According to journalist Frank Barrett, the Balearic island is superior in many ways to most other Mediterranean tourist hotspots.

In an article for the Daily Mail, he said Mallorca is very different from the common stereotype generated by party resorts like Magaluf.

Mr Barrett stated that on a recent trip to the island, he stayed in the small village of S'Horta, which he described as a pleasant place with a wonderful bread shop.

"The nearest beach a couple of miles away at Cala Marsal is a little gem of a place with only a modest sprinkling of holidaymakers," he remarked.

And he pointed out that there are some great restaurants in the area serving traditional cuisine, while the city of Palma is just a 45-minute drive away for a day trip.

However, he said it may be difficult for holiday makers to drag themselves away from S'Horta, where they can simply relax and enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace of their villa, taking in the beautiful views out towards the shimmering Mediterranean Sea.

Tourists who like the idea of a stay in S'Horta can rent a Mallorca villa in the village.

The town of Calonge is also close by, with a wide variety of shops selling furniture and glassware for those who fancy some retail therapy.
