Make like Milligan in a Mallorca villa
Comedian Spike Milligan enjoyed Mallorca holidays so much he bought his own villa on the island, which he described as a "paradise of silence", according to the Independent.
Located near Pollensa - a charming Roman town that is a hotspot for Mallorca holidays - the accommodation introduced the newspaper's Jason Burt to the diverse and intriguing pleasures of the destination.
Activity highlights included playing with a bucket and spade at Port de Pollensa, mingling with the cyclists at the monastery of Lluc in the Tramuntana mountains and exploring the underground caves of Campanet.
Just as much enjoyment is available simply by relaxing at home, the pleasures of which persuaded the writer to assert: "I wanted to phone up the villa company and say: 'I'll book this villa for the rest of my life.'"
Pollensa is home to a popular Sunday market, which sells fruit, vegetables, cheeses and other delicacies.
