Enjoy fantastic architecture on holiday in Mallorca

While many will visit Mallorca for its sunshine and beaches, the architecture on the island is a feature people should not ignore, it has been stated.

Blogging for Crikey, Dr Terry Butler noted the attractiveness of the La Seu cathedral on the island's capital Palma and its contrast with other Ctaalan cathedrals.

Noting that architect Antoni Gaudi had done away with buttresses in his famous Familia Sagrada cathedral in Barcelona, the contrast in Palma's case is stark as the building has numerous features of this kind.

The blogger also noted how Gaudi altered the interior of the cathedral between 1902 and 1914, with larger windows allowing in more light.

And Dr Butler noted the work of Soller in creating various buildings and a square in the nearby town of Rubio.

Writing for the Daily Telegraph recently, Nick Holford tipped Mallorca as a good place to spend a winter break due to its southerly latitude and year-round sunny climate.

He identified Cala Deia beach on the west coast as one of the best beaches to visit.
