Enjoy a 'real' Mallorca holiday

Those planning Mallorca villa holidays will find that the island has a great deal to offer beyond mass market tourist resorts like Magaluf.

In an article for the Telegraph, travel journalist Graham Boynton described Mallorca as "a green and mountainous island, with a coastline of often exquisite natural beauty".

He said that upon his arrival, a taxi driver told him that he should head inland to see the real Mallorca, which he did the following day, visiting Valldemossa.

From here he drove to Foradada, which he claimed is one of the island's great beauty spots, before heading to the "picture-book" village of Deia.

Mr Boynton also managed to fit in a trip to Mallorca's capital Palma, which he said is rich in history and boasts some intriguing architecture.

"There are touches of Gaudi, flourishes of Miro, cobbled streets, Gothic buildings and La Seu, the great cathedral that looms large and magnificent over the city," he wrote.

Those hoping to see the real Mallorca and head inland to visit some of the places Mr Boynton talked about could rent villas in Sa Pobla, which is an hour away from Palma and is not far from Valldemossa.

Situated in the heart of a farming community, the town is known as the 'vegetable basket' of Mallorca.
