Check out the Mother of God Festivities on a Mallorca holiday
Mallorca holiday makers visiting the island this month might want to take in the sights and sounds of the Mother of God Festivities.
Running from August 14th to 22nd, the celebrations focus on the assumption of the Virgin Mary and take place across Mallorca.
According to tradition, a representation of the bed where her remains lie is decorated in various churches, with Mary then being taken outside as part of a procession.
Campos, Esporles, Portocolom, S'Illot, Puigpunyent, Can Picafort, Cala d'Or, Caimari, Sencelles and Biniarix are among the locations that take part in the festivities.
Catholic, Orthodox and Anglican worshippers all join in the celebrations, which are also known as the Mare de Deu d'Agost and the Mare de Deu Morta.
Visitors can stay in villas in Cala d'Or to be as close as possible to the proceedings and to avoid the hassle associated with staying in a traditional hotel.
Other villas can be found in Porto Petro and S'Horta.
