Book a Mallorca holiday and find the island's 'hidden heaven'

The island of Mallorca is brimming with tiny villages and large beach resorts that tourists can explore, but those who get off the beaten track can discover its "hidden heaven".

In an article for the Daily Star, travel journalist Annabelle Thorpe said several "impossibly picturesque" villages lie between the peaks of the Tramuntana mountains in Mallorca just waiting to be discovered.

She said those who drive along the winding mountain roads will be met with some "stunning" scenery as they travel from town to town getting to know the real Mallorca.

Valldemossa, with its cobbled streets, attracts holiday makers all year round, while Costa Nord is a must-see place for culture vultures.

The "breathtakingly beautiful" Deia is famous for its literary connections, having been the home of poet Robert Graves for several years.

"Others, from Anais Nin to Gabriel Marcia Marquez, have followed, drawn by the dramatic landscapes and golden light," said Ms Thorpe.

If exploring these three villages is not enough, there is also Soller, which is surrounded by "soaring" peaks and "peaceful" orange, lemon and olive groves, providing some great photo opportunities.

Those staying in Mallorca villas in Sa Pobla will be able to hire a car and drive into the Tramuntana mountains.

This countryside town is home to a farming community and hosts a bustling local market.
