Book a Mallorca holiday and escape the traffic on the island's cycle routes

Those looking to escape the crowds and enjoy some excellent cycling in the sunshine should consider a Mallorca holiday.

In an article for the Telegraph, travel writer John Conner said the absence of traffic on the island is great for those exploring on two wheels.

He said that if cyclists keep away from the main roads, it is possible to travel many miles without seeing more than a tractor.

Venturing a short way out of their Mallorca holiday resorts, tourists will find themselves in a "hinterland of drystone walls, patchwork orchards and secluded farms".

Describing the view on one of his bike rides on the island, Mr Conner said: "To the north the silhouette of the mountains is barely discernible; a featureless blue, like a strip of roughly torn tissue pasted on the afternoon sky."

He said cyclists will pass old farms and cottages, almond trees and animals including "dusty" pigs and "sun-dried" goats.

Mallorca villas in Sa Pobla may be a good choice for keen cyclists, as the town is set in a fertile marshland.

It is also not too far from the Tramuntana Mountains, which provide some excellent cycling opportunities for both beginners and experts.
