Archduke Louis Salvador: Mallorca

Archduke Louis Salvador first visited Mallorca 140 years ago in 1867 and has become an ambassador for the island.

He purchased a number of estates on the island and his first purchase, made in 1872, was known as Miramar in Valldemossa and can still be visited by holidaymakers today.

The estate was the crown jewel in the Archduke's collection and today it houses a museum displaying items related to him.

An oil press from the farm can be visited as well as the garden and the library and the assembly hall and chapel can also be visited.

Holidaymakers looking for stunning panoramic views of the sea should head to the Moor's Tower, a lookout point used in the time of the Archduke.

The Miramar is the most spectacular of the Archduke's estates but visitors interested in learning more about the man may want to visit his museum in Son Marroig.

It exhibits many items that belonged to the Archduke and is also a point along the Archduke Trial which takes keen walkers on a day long trek through the Tramutana mountain range.
