Visit the volcanic vineyards on a Lanzarote villa holiday
Holiday makers could be forgiven for thinking that Lanzarote's volcanic landscape is unsuitable for growing grapevines.
But those on Lanzarote villa holidays will soon find out that this is not the case, and that wine growers are able to using volcanic sand to produce their crops.
"It is amazing to see, when you travel to the heart of the island of Lanzarote, that grapevines manage to find moisture underneath the dry lava," said journalist David Mills in an article for Round Town News.
He pointed out that the town of Uga in the southern part of the island is one place where tourists can see Lanzarote's grapevines.
Mr Mills said the views here are incredibly impressive, as the Timanfaya and Los Volcanoes Natural Parks create a stunning backdrop.
Further inland towards the centre of Lanzarote, tourists can find the town of Masdache, where the 18th Century Wine Museum and the former El Grifo winery - the oldest on the Canary Islands - can be found.
Those renting Lanzarote villas in Yaiza will be able to visit Uga and Masdache easily by car. They will also be able to take a trip into the heart of the Timanfaya National Park to see some exciting geothermal demonstrations.
