Stunning scenery awaits Lanzarote holiday makers

Those planning Lanzarote villa holidays will be met with some stunning scenery when they land on the island, one journalist has insisted.

In an article for the Mirror, Margaret Jones said there is something incredibly appealing about the "moonscape" of Lanzarote.

"A black mass of volcanic gravel stretches out either side of the road punctuated by brilliant white little hamlets," she said, describing the view as she drove around the island.

Ms Jones said the drive from the airport to the resort of Playa Blanca where she and her family stayed inspired her to rent a car and explore some more.

She said the influence of Cesar Manrique, the late Spanish architect, designer and conservationist, can be felt throughout Lanzarote.

He played an important role in the development of the island, banning high-rise buildings and advertising hoardings and preventing Lanzarote from falling into the same tourist trap as many other Spanish holiday resorts.

Those renting their own Lanzarote villas in Playa Blanca will also be able to rent cars and get out and about to see why Ms Jones is so passionate about the island's unique scenery.

The Timanfaya National Park with its impressive volcanoes is just a short drive away, while the nature reserve of Papagayo is also close by, where tourists can find what is believed to be the best beach in Lanzarote.
