Sterling boost to help Brits on eurozone villa holidays

A recent rise in the value of the pound against the single European currency will benefit Brits planning Lanzarote villa holidays and other eurozone breaks this summer.

Sterling rose almost half a cent yesterday (June 29th) to 1.24 euros on the currency exchange markets.

This represents a new 19-month high for the pound, its highest level since the immediate aftermath of the financial crisis in November 2008.

It has been predicted that the recent trend could allow people planning Lanzarote holidays and other eurozone breaks to save up to £700 on their getaway this year.

A spokesman for Abta, the travel industry association, told the Daily Express: "The pound has been steadily gaining in value against the euro for the last few months, which is great news for millions of UK holidaymakers as we head for the peak summer months.

"Holidaymakers are in for a very pleasant surprise when they find out just how far their hard-earned cash can go in many of our favourite foreign holiday spots."

Many travel firms have reported a rise in bookings this week following England's exit from the World Cup.
