Sports fans urged to see Ironman event on Lanzarote holidays

Sports fans looking forward to Lanzarote holidays this month have been encouraged to see the famous Ironman triathlon on the island.

Following the recent release of Hollywood blockbuster Iron Man 2, low-cost carrier Jet2 urged travellers to pay a visit to Lanzarote to experience "the real deal".

Due to take place on May 22nd, the Ironman triathlon will see competitors taking on three gruelling challenges.

The participants will start with a 2.4-mile swim, followed by a 112-mile cycle race and a run of 26.2 miles, the same distance as a full marathon, to finish.

Holiday makers staying in Lanzarote villas will be able to gather along the course to see the athletes stretching every sinew and pushing their bodies to the limit as they attempt to complete the challenge in a quick time.

The prize on offer is a place at the Ford Ironman World Championship, which is held every October in Kona, Hawaii.

Jet2 pointed out that, as well as seeing the impressive physical spectacle, people taking Lanzarote holidays this month will be able to attend some of the parties and celebrations that are arranged around the Ironman contest.
