Snap up Lanzarote villas to see annual pilgrimage

People who are looking to see something a little different during their getaway this summer may want to seek out villas in Lanzarote next month.

The popular Canary Island destination will be host to the Virgen de los Dolores on September 17th, an annual pilgrimage which finishes in Mancha Blanca.

According to Lanzarote Guidebook, the occasion gives tourists the opportunity to see a host of people travelling through the island's countryside towards the resort, dressed in traditional attire.

The news source also noted that the celebration is set to be more packed than ever this year, with around 60,000 individuals likely to visit Mancha Blanca during the event.

Virgen de los Dolores marks an occasion in 1824 when a girl from the town prayed that lava from a nearby volcano eruption stopped short of the region.

After the lava did stop before reaching Mancha Blanca, many saw it as a miracle and have since honoured the event.

Brits may also want to check out Cueva de los Verdes while in Lanzarote villas next month, seeing as though pianist Jose Maria Curbelo and bassoonist Salva Sanchis will be performing a host of musical themes in the resort on September 3rd.
