See art and nature combined on a Lanzarote holiday

People planning Lanzarote villa holidays this year will be able to discover the work of Cesar Manrique, which represents a unique combination of art and nature.

Manrique "understood as no-one before him the beauty and the value of his surroundings", according to the Spanish Tourist Office.

While his influence can be felt throughout Spain, it is most noticeable in his homeland of Lanzarote.

Travellers staying in villas in Puerto del Carmen, Oasis de Nazaret and other popular destinations can arrange tours to see some of the spectacular volcanic landscapes that were so inspirational for Manrique.

One of the artist's first and "perhaps most spectacular" works, according to the tourist office, is the Los Jameos del Agua cave.

He used the site's unique natural attributes to create an auditorium of sorts, which features striking contrasts of light and colour.

People taking Lanzarote holidays this year can also pay a visit to Mirador del Rio, a vantage point integrated into the island's northern cliffs that offers panoramic views of the surrounding land and sea.
