Rise in foreign tourists visiting Lanzarote villas

April saw a significant increase in the number of tourists arriving in Lanzarote, with some holiday makers possibly then staying in villas across the Canary Island.

New figures released by AENA have revealed that last month saw 159,693 foreign tourists take up opportunities to visit the getaway hot spot.

This is an increase of 57.43 per cent on the number of people who came from other countries to Lanzarote in April 2010, when the passenger total arriving at Arrecife airport was 101,434.

Lanzarote was not the only Canary Island to celebrate high tourism figures though, with the whole region enjoying its best April on record, thanks to 936,635 foreigners coming to the islands over the period.

Among the people travelling to this area recently were The Only Way Is Essex duo Maria Fowler and Sam Faiers.

Fowler was spotted catching some glorious sunshine while relaxing on a beach in Gran Canaria, while Faiers opted to travel to Tenerife on a break in filming for the popular ITV reality programme.
