Rise in Brits taking holidays in Lanzarote

More Brits could be snapping up villas in Lanzarote, if new figures are anything to go by.

According to ISTAC, the Canarian Institute of Statistics, the number of tourists from the UK visiting the popular Canary Island destination during August rose by almost four per cent when compared to the same month in 2010.

In total, 201,702 people visited Lanzarote last month, with 77,601 of these coming from Britain. German and Irish holiday makers also sought out resorts on the island in their tens of thousands throughout August.

The statistics also mean that the number of tourists seeking out stays in Lanzarote throughout 2011 until the end of August now stands at 1,373,724, a rise of 8.06 per cent in comparison to the same time period last year.

Such figures come soon after the Council for Tourism revealed that 144,432 non-Spanish tourists visited Lanzarote last month, an increase of close to eight per cent compared to August 2010.
