Lanzarote villa holidays could become more popular among film lovers thanks to the latest cinematic masterpiece by Pedro Almodovar.

The Spanish auteur chose to take his cameras to the serene island destination for Broken Embraces, the new movie starring Penelope Cruz that has been wowing critics and audiences all over the world.

Lanzarote's beautiful volcanic scenery provides the backdrop for the film, which tells the story of a couple who elope after the beautiful Lena's lover finds out she has been having an affair.

Lena is played by Penelope Cruz, who has been earning rave reviews for her performance as a comely secretary and part-time call girl.

According to travelbite.co.uk, some of Broken Embraces' most arresting scenes were filmed around the Timanfaya National Park, which was formed as the result of a number of volcanic eruptions during the 18th century.

One of the most popular Canary Islands among tourists, Lanzarote boats exquisite beaches and almost year-round sunshine.

It also has excellent shops and a rich history to keep visitors enthralled for the duration of their stay.
