Lanzarote records best tourism figures in seven years

The number of people taking holidays to Lanzarote in the past 12 months is up from 2010's figures, new research has indicated.

According to statistics released by ISTAC, the Canarian Institute of Statistics, a total of 1,714,497 foreign tourists visited the popular Canary Island in 2011.

This figure is up by 17.32 per cent when compared to the tourism numbers recorded in 2010, as well as being the best yearly results for the destination in seven years.

Furthermore, the key tourist markets in Lanzarote have also been boosted during the past 12 months.

British tourism to the Canary Island hotspot is up by 11.43 per cent, though Germany's market achieved even greater results with a 17.46 per cent increase.

A stay in Lanzarote villas is attractive all year round, seeing as though temperatures in January usually reach 21 degrees C, while a scorching 29 degrees C can be expected during August.

Families can enjoy these climes while exploring the volcanic landscapes of La Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua, or the luxurious white beaches of Playa Blanca and Papagayo.
