Lanzarote holidays 'can appeal to the cool crowd'

Lanzarote has long been a tourist hotspot, but despite its reputation as a cheap and cheerful destination for families, the island is also incredibly cool.

This is the view of OK! magazine, which states that Lanzarote holidays can appeal as much to those seeking calm sophistication as they do to those looking for simple fun in the sun.

The publication claims that the resort of Playa Blanca is the best place to chill out on the beach, shop in some top designer boutiques and enjoy a drink and a meal in one of the island's many local bars and restaurants.

Playa Blanca is home to a couple of sandy beaches, while more can be found in the sheltered coves hidden between the rocky headlands along the coast.

The Papagayo beaches are among the best, OK! insists, as they are largely untouched by tourism. Mostly inaccessible by land, they can be reached on a boat trip from the marina.

Further along the cost, the "glam" resort of Puerto Calero may also be worth as visit, as it is often frequented by the rich and famous.

Those hoping to experience the cool side of Lanzarote can rent their own private villa in Playa Blanca and hire a car to visit some of the other resorts.

Playa Blanca is also just a short drive from the Timanfaya National Park, which according to OK! is a must-see.

Ferries to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura are also available from Playa Blanca's harbour.
