Ironman Lanzarote sees record participants

People who are hoping to see an event that displays some of the toughest individuals in the world should be quick to snap up villas in Lanzarote.

The popular Canary Island will be hosting the 20th edition of Ironman Lanzarote on Saturday (May 21st), with this contest set to see more competitors than ever before.

All told, 1,471 male and female contestants have signed up for the endurance task, that will see them swim, cycle and run towards victory.

The competition does not discriminate based on age either, with the oldest male participant being Richard Lake, a 72-year-old Brit hoping to take home the title.

People staying in Lanzarote villas will also have the chance to see 20 professional male athletes and eight professional female competitors all show off their skills.

Meanwhile, first-time participant in Ironman Lanzarote, Joel Jameson, has recently expressed the task ahead of him to the official website of the competition.

He said: "If I finish in top five I will be quite happy. In top three I will be very happy. If I would actually win, it would be unbelievable."
