Increase in visits to tourist venues across Lanzarote

There has been an increase in people visiting tourist attractions while staying around Lanzarote villas, if new research is anything to go by.

According to the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the number of people who visited the main venues of the Canary Island hotspot in June 2011 sat at 186,728.

Such a figure is an 8.43 per cent rise compared to admissions to the attractions in June 2010, when 172,214 people passed through the doors of the locations.

The most frequently visited of the venues during the month was the Timanfaya National Park, which had 63,447 visitors, with Jameos del Agua the second most popular, with 50,753 guests.

As a result of the increase, a total of 1,160,140 people passed through the doors of the key attractions in the first six months of 2011, a jump of 11.4 per cent on the previous year's statistics.

The Timanfaya National Park received its status back in 1968 and allows families staying in villas in Lanzarote to explore the island's Fire Mountains, which formed following the eruption of over 100 volcanoes in the 18th century.
