Holiday in Lanzarote 'is perfect for walkers'
Keen walkers who can think of nothing greater than packing their hiking boots and heading overseas for a winter break in a beautiful landscape should consider a holiday in Lanzarote, if one expert is to be believed.
Ginny Light, travel editor at TimesOnline and member of Skyscanner's expert panel designed to respond to readers' questions, nominates the location as one of the best places to head to at this time of year.
She admits the Canary Islands are rightfully one of the most popular destinations during the colder months, although there is plenty more to them than sprawling resorts and beaches.
"The island has a volcanic interior of black sand and lava rock that in places feels like a moonscape, quite other-worldly in fact. It's great walking country," Ms Light states.
She goes on to note the temperature is just right for a holiday in Tenerife during December or January, as it stays at around 15 degrees Celsius.
Sean Tipton, spokesman for ABTA – The Travel Association, is another expert to have recently nominated the Canaries as the place to be this month.
