Have some volcanic fun on a Lanzarote holiday

Lanzarote holidays offer all the sun, sea and sand families could want, but they also provide visitors with an opportunity to experience something a little different.

The island's volcanic landscape makes it a great place to explore, as mountainous terrain shaped by centuries of lava eruptions provide a unique backdrop.

According to In2town magazine, Lanzarote is home to some fascinating natural sights, such as the Green Caves and the Cactus Gardens.

The Timanfaya National Park is also a must-visit, where guides give demonstrations to show holiday makers just how much heat and pressure exists beneath the surface of the lunar-like landscape.

Here, tourists can also sample some traditional Canarian food that has been cooked over holes in the ground using geothermal energy.

"Whether you're after a nice relaxing break in the sun or want to explore the vast volcanic landscape, Lanzarote could be the Canary that adds chirpiness to your holiday," the publication states.

Those renting Lanzarote villas in Yaiza will be able to enjoy some dramatic views across the mountains, as the village is located close to Timanfaya National Park, making day trips easy.

It has a small selection of restaurants, bars and cafes in its central square, but is also just a 15-minute drive from the bigger resorts of Playa Blanca and Puerto del Carmen for those who fancy something a little livelier of an evening.
