Cut costs on school holiday vacations
Families dreaming of a villa holiday in Lanzarote have been offered advice on how to cut the cost of such a trip.
Writing in the Telegraph, Sophie Butler notes that despite the fact holiday prices rocket in the school holidays, there are a few ways families can keep the cost of planning a holiday down.
She advised seeking out the cheaper weeks within the high-season period. During the summer holidays, for example, steer clear of departures in the first half of August.
Furthermore, the more inconvenient the travel time the cheaper prices tend to be. Travelling in midweek and at early morning or late night times tend to be the best bet when it comes to slashing costs.
It is likely that families will make the effort to get away this year, despite the difficult economic climate, with Andrew Dunn, founder of Scott Dunn, saying on a BBC On The Money podcast that holidays "are absolutely a necessity" for most.
