Book a Lanzarote villa holiday for autumn sunshine

Lanzarote holidays have been recommended for those looking to go on sunshine getaway in the autumn.

According to Nicola Iseard of the Guardian, the destination in the Canary Islands is ideal for late breaks because holiday makers can expect to see average temperatures in the mid-20s degrees C range.

She notes that Lanzarote's close proximity to the Western Sahara means it has a more desert-like climate than might be expected in the rest of Mediterranean and is particularly pleasant in the autumn.

"The north-easterly trade winds - which blow across the island from March to August - drop considerably, the sea, heated by the summer sun, is at its warmest ... and the tourist crowds have subsided," she explains.

Britons heading on Lanzarote holidays in the autumn might want to go walking up and down the volcanic peaks on the island, particularly in Timanfaya National Park, Ms Iseard says.

Lanzarote's volcanic landscape led to it being declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in October 1993.

Holiday villas in Lanzarote can be found in areas such as Costa Teguise, Playa Blanca and Puerto Calero.
