Book a Lanzarote villa holiday and watch the kiteboarders

Holiday makers enjoying a stay in a Lanzarote villa during June will be able to watch some of the world's most extreme athletes competing in an exciting event.

From June 1st to 6th, the Kiteboard Pro World Tour (KPWT) will be coming to the island to showcase a special event.

Kiteboarding is a water-based sport which involves riders travelling on the surface of the water, pulled at high speeds by a kite.

The Lanzarote Kitepro Santa 2010 will consist of a number of competitions including freestyle, wave masters and juniors, with important points up for grabs in the pursuit of the world title.

It is due to take place at Famara, on Lanzarote's north-west coast, which is highly regarded for its excellent waves and strong winds.

"This is a big step in the right direction for Lanzarote Kiteboarding and tourism in the area," said a representative of La Santa Surf, which is co-organising the event.

"We are proud to be working with the KPWT and happy to promote the area on an international scale."

As well as spending time watching the competition, Lanzarote holidaymakers can take part in watersports themselves, relax on the beach or enjoy tax-free shopping on the island.
