Book a Lanzarote villa holiday and enjoy volcanic landscapes
Travellers exploring the volcanic landscapes while on a Lanzarote villa holiday will be able to see what it is that has captivated so many artists.
According to the Telegraph, the otherworldly landscape of the island is its defining glory, serving up some of the most surreal volcanic landscapes in the whole of the Canaries.
Its last dramatic eruption, which occurred in the heart of the present-day Timanfaya National Park, came about in 1730, relatively recently in geological terms, the newspaper points out.
However the site of the eruption, called Las Montanas del Fuego, is now one of Lanzarote's leading tourist attractions, as well as inspiring the work of artists such as Cesar Manrique, one of the island's most famous painters.
"A native of Lanzarote, Manrique left behind a legacy that stretches far beyond the physical artefacts he created," the newspaper wrote.
"The island’s reputation for high-quality, sustainable tourism stems from his influence and his aesthetic sense for the built environment has permeated the culture."
While visiting Lanzarote, holiday makers will find plenty of buildings that were designed by Manrique, who was also responsible for ensuring that high-rise buildings were prevented from taking over the island's skyline.
