Book a Lanzarote holiday on the popular Canary Island

Lanzarote is one of the most popular Canary Islands for Brits looking to book a holiday, is has been revealed.

According to the Canary Islands Tourist Board, a quarter of all visitors to the island chain choose to enjoy a Lanzarote holiday.

It released figures on the island's popularity at the recent 2009 World Travel Market, which was held in London.

In total, more than three million people from Britain visited the Canaries last year, with 24.6 per cent heading to Lanzarote.

This means it was the second most popular of all the islands in 2008, ahead of Gran Canaria.

What's more, the statistics also indicated that the Canary Islands are incredibly popular among repeat visitors, with almost half (41.2 per cent) of all visitors from last year having been to the Spanish islands before.

Holiday makers staying in a Lanzarote villa will be able to check out the island's striking natural environment, which consists of pristine beaches, volcanic rock formations, mountains and caves.

There are also excursions into the Timanfaya National Park to be enjoyed for those eager to learn more about Lanzarote's volcanic past.
