Book a Lanzarote holiday and enjoy the island's urban scene
Those heading off on Lanzarote holidays will no doubt be planning a few lazy days on the island's beautiful beaches.
But if they venture further inland, they will find that Lanzarote has much more to offer than just its sandy coastal resorts.
In an article for the Independent newspaper, travel journalist Simone Kane described the island's "urban scene".
She said the capital Arrecife has a low-key vibe with a town beach surrounded by a promenade, while the centre is home to several small boutiques for shopping.
"Check out the gallery Castillo de San Jose and Museo Internacional del Arte Contemporaneo, housed in an 18th-century castle," she recommended.
Lanzarote's oldest urban area is Teguise, which was the capital until 1852 and has some interesting colonial-style architecture.
The "palm-studded" village of Haria may also be worth a visit, appearing like an "oasis" in the mountains as tourists approach from the south.
On Saturdays a morning market is held, offering handmade crafts and other goods, while traditional tapas can always be enjoyed in the local restaurants.
Those renting Lanzarote villas in Tias will be in a great location to visit the urban areas mentioned by Ms Kane and many more.
The small village is itself an urban gem, offering a friendly community spirit and plenty of fiestas and cultural events throughout the year.
