Your holiday in Ireland
Boasting a fantastic blend of ancient tradition and youthful energy, Ireland is a country of myth, memories and modernism. You’ll be warmly welcomed into the official ‘friendliest country in the world’, whether you’re stopping for a pint in the local village pub or browsing the stylish boutiques of the cities. And make sure you don’t miss out on the beautiful scenery, which will leave you captivated, from the majestic hills of Clare to the crystal-clear waters of Dingle Bay. The ‘Emerald Isle’ is a land of unsurpassed beauty and infinite history, bathed in peace and tranquillity, but brimming with vitality and spirit.
Atmospheric evenings
Wherever you go in Ireland, the local pub is always central to a great evening’s entertainment, and you may even find a friendly and cosy establishment jumping to the sounds of traditional Irish music, or even a ‘céilí’ – an evening of music and dancing – in the village hall. Immerse yourself in the warm, community atmosphere and absorb the sounds of the accordion, the bodhrán (traditional drum), the flute and the fiddle – maybe even joining in with a dance or two. If you prefer your evenings at a slower pace, Ireland’s coastal towns are well-known for their tempting seafood dishes, where you can sample beautiful fresh fish, caught by local fisherman.
Discover local charm
Ireland is packed with culture and tradition from the mouth of Lough Foyle to the tip of the Old Head of Kinsale. Visit during summer months, and you’ll find towns full of life with a seemingly endless procession of traditional festivals and events, the subjects of which are as diverse as sailing, horse-racing, jazz, and oysters, attracting locals and visitors alike. Music has a huge place in the Irish conscience, with the country’s musicians ranging from traditional céilí bands and classical artists, to folk-rock groups and an array of international pop stars. You’ll be very welcome at, and enthusiastically encouraged to join in, with any of the cultural events that cross your path.
Hints of history
Visit any part of this captivating country, and you’ll find yourself surrounded by echoes of Ireland’s rich and varied history. The ‘Land of Saints and Scholars’ was established by the early pioneers of Christianity including the Patron Saint of Ireland, St Patrick and the seventh and eighth century scholars who excelled in Latin and Christian Theology. The spirits of this golden age live on, with many colourful festivals, beautiful churches and historic monuments dotted throughout the majestic Irish countryside and ancient towns. For a sample of more recent history, experience Ireland’s excellent brewing heritage and taste the ‘black stuff’ at the Guinness storehouse in Dublin.
Outdoor pursuits
If you love outdoor activities, you will love this island of mountains and glens, loughs and rivers. Golf is a sport rooted deeply in Irish minds, with more than thirty percent of the world’s golf courses packed into this scenic country. Take a more relaxed pace and ramble through verdant valleys or across shimmering, golden brown moors in search of a rural pub, where you will be afforded a warm welcome by the regulars. The coastline is a haven for the abundant wildlife, including dolphins, whales and a multitude of different bird life. Inland waters and beautiful coastline lend themselves to great surfing, kayaking and sailing, and fishing the beautiful lakes is also extremely popular.
