Tourist office success, Ibiza
Nearly 30,000 visitors have used the three tourist information centres in the capital, Ibiza Town.
A total of 27,409 holidaymakers have made visits to the offices so far this year.
The centre in Vara de Rey has been the most popular according to The Ibiza Sun newspaper, with 8,019 visitors coming through its doors in May.
Another new centre was opened in ses Figuretes and is also popular, with 1,607 tourists using it in its first month.
The ages of the visitors range from old to young, with 28 per cent of people aged 56 or over, and 28 per cent between ages 20-30.
Vicent Ferrer, councillor for tourism, told the paper that the three new centres had been a great success and he felt sure that the good work would continue.
The first settlers in Ibiza Town were the Phoenicians over 2,600 years ago, the streets still following medieval layout, with the cathedral positioned at the centre, the safest point from invaders.
The walls city walls were built by Italian engineers, Juan Baptista Calvi, and Jacobo Paleazo Fratin.
They are quite short but very thick to defend the town against cannon fire from attackers.
