Pirate's Tower: Ibiza
Walking up from Sant Josep will also lead holidaymakers to the Pirate's Tower or the tower of es Savinar as it is known locally.
Giving some of the most spectacular views of the islands, the lookouts were built with the purpose of defending Ibiza.
It rises 200 metres above sea level and on clear days holidaymakers could be able to see the Spanish mainland.
There are a total of fifteen towers built around the island's coast, with the earliest being constructed in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Lookouts would be able to shelter inside the buildings if the enemy approached and they could not make it back to the town in time.
Some towers were equipped with weapons to allow the island to be defended but they were usually meant to start signals to warn other inhabitants to barricade themselves in the nearest church.
By lighting a fire the next tower would be warned of invasion, and so on until all the fires were lit and everyone knew of the attack.
