Monument marks 'uniqueness' of Ibiza

Situated in the harbour is Monumento a los Corsarios, which celebrates the role that pirates have had in the history of the island and it could be a great day trip for holiday makers renting a villa in the relaxing village of San Rafael.

Pirates are said to have played a vital part in the history of the Ibiza, defending it from sea-based enemy attacks from the 18th century onward.

Those who holiday in the island at the beginning of August and during the San Salvador festivities could witness an official ceremony that sees the monument strewn with floral wreaths as a mark of respect.

Back at their villa in San Rafael, travellers can soak up the Ibizan sun lying by their private pool surrounded by countryside rich in fruit trees.
