Ibiza tops tourist charts
Ibiza has enjoyed a bumper holiday season, a new report from the Spanish National Institute of Statistics (NE) claims.
The data showed Formentera scoring third place nationally with 80.21 per cent of hotel rooms occupied, closely followed by Santa Eulalia, with an impressive 77.95 per cent.
The statistics, which covered the 2006 season, also showed that the average stay in San Antonio for each holiday maker was 6.93 nights, which again placed it well within the top ten.
This season looks set to score even higher on the charts, with Ibizan airports reporting 11 per cent more passengers last weekend when compared with the previous year.
The Ibiza Sun also reports the Hotel Federation in Ibiza and Formentera as saying that "the season was going to be slightly more successful than last year, in terms of numbers of hotel arrivals".
Numbers of self-catering and villa holiday makers were as yet left undefined by the federation.
Topping the list for Spain overall was Alcudia, in Mallorca, which marked an impressive occupancy rate of 83.27 per cent.
