Ibiza named as one of 'top ten islands'

Ibiza has been named in a list of top ten Mediterranean island holiday destinations by a travel website.

Reuters reported that editors at TripAdvisor, along with travellers, selected the Spanish island - along with Crete, Corfu and Mallorca, among others - as one of the best places to take an island break this summer.

According to the website, Ibiza stands out because of a number of UNESCO Heritage sites, including God's Finger - a large rock located at the entrance of the island's Benirras Bay.

The United Nations World Heritage Centre claims that the shoreline of Ibiza is one of the best examples of the interaction between coastal and marine ecosystems and suggested a number of other locations on the island that are sure to appeal to villa holiday makers seeking a taste of history.

It claims that a number of 16th-century structures on the island showcase the engineering and architectural styles of the Renaissance and that the Upper Town of Ibiza is an "excellent example" of a fortified acropolis that dates back to the island's earliest Phoenician settlements.
