Hippy Markets, Ibiza
The flower-power roots of Ibiza's original tourist boom are reflected in the various 'Hippy Markets', which are taking place across the island this summer.
The biggest of these takes place at the Punta Arabi at Es Cana near Santa Eulalia every Wednesday from 10am to 7pm.
A smaller hippy market can be found at Las Dalias at San Carlos all day Saturday - this market is regarded as quirkier and more original, as well as being smaller.
The markets sell jewellery and gifts, as well as 'hippy' clothes and shoes.
Ibiza was made famous as a tourist destination in the 1960s, when it became a prime stop off point on the so-called 'hippy trail'. Many of those who came to the island never left, and can be found among the stallholders!
The markets date back to the early 1970s, and stem from the resort management at Es Canar, giving some of the island's recent arrivals a chance to sell some of their goods to tourists.
