Beautiful areas of Ibiza saved from construction
Reports from the Guardian state that all construction will be frozen in one of Mallorca's largest untouched bays and in urban marshlands in Ibiza.
Land will be redefined as protected by the government of the Balearic Islands meaning that they cannot be built on in the future.
It also means cultural buildings such as monasteries will be saved on the islands and will not face the risk of re-development.
The move was welcomed by Greenpeace, with Maria Jose Caballero describing it as "very positive and very necessary".
Holidaymakers travelling to Ibiza will be guaranteed culture, good weather and a varied holiday this winter.
Ibiza has several UNESCO world heritage sites such as the Ibiza Old Town where mazes of streets are enclosed by towering fortress walls.
An archaeology museum and a contemporary art museum are located in the Old Town showing the diverse cultural environment Ibiza has to offer.
