Battlements restored, Ibiza
A long-term restoration project on one of Ibiza Town's most distinctive landmarks has finally been completed this week.
The nine-year project, on the 16th-century battlements of Sant Pere, finally culminated in a grand opening by Ibiza's mayoress, Lurdes Costa. Percussion group Tumbuka also performed at the event.
Restoration work, undertaken by students of the council-run craft workshop, saw a new "cultural space" opened at the Sant Pere, constructed on the site of a former discotheque.
The battlements form part of Ibiza Town's Dalt Vila area, the historic hilltop fortifications containing a labyrinth of steep, narrow streets, chapels and the island's biggest fortress.
The redeveloped site, overlooks the entrance to Dalt Vila known to locals as Portal Nou. It had previously fallen into a state of disrepair.
Now, the new space is open to holiday makers and locals from Tuesday to Saturday.
