Bacchus honoured in Ibiza wine festival
The day involves drinking a lot of wine and eating special pork dishes that are grilled on outdoor wood fires.
The name translates to Country Wine Festival and the event is particularly social with sometimes over 5,000 people making their way to the village of Sant Antoni de Portmany, which usually holds 400!
A total of two wineries are now in operation in the area, working alongside twenty-five wine producers that all donate wine to the festival.
According to illesbalears.es spicy Mallorcan sausages, pork sausages are used to accompany the wine and the food is served at six o'clock in the centre of the village.
Fires are set up inside old bathtubs to grill the food and music is played throughout the meal giving holidaymakers a real taste for life in Ibiza.
Fresh fritter doughnuts are also made on the spot and the music doesn't stop until midnight.
