Archaeological burial site in Ibiza
Containing more than 3,000 tombs it is the site of the world's finest collection of Punic remains.
The site acted as Eivissa's cemetery from the time the Phoenicians came to the area in the late seventh century BC.
Visitors to Ibiza can see the remains of the site that covered 50,000 square metres of land and continued to be used during the Roman times.
A slope contains the small caves that are reached by an opening that was closed off with slabs of rock and the bodies were located inside the necropolis.
Bodies were buried or cremated depending on the time and thousands of figures baked out of mud have been found at the area, some portraying the dead while others represent protective divinities.
Treasures such as jewels and amulets were found near the tombs and holiday makers interested in archaeology will certainly by fascinated by the amount of material discovered at the site.
