Tampa Bay Lightning put on a show for Florida villa holiday makers

Going to see the Tampa Bay Lightning perform in the NHL could prove to be an exciting pastime for sports enthusiasts staying in a Florida villa.

The Florida ice hockey team will be facing a number of tough games during the next few weeks that could make or break the rest of their season, even at this early stage in the NHL calendar.

On October 10th, they will be welcoming the mighty Carolina Hurricanes to the St Pete Times Forum, before hosting the Ottawa Senators on October 15th and the Pittsburgh Penguins, last year's Stanley Cup champions, on October 17th.

Although Florida is more famous for its temperate climate and sandy beaches than the action unfolding on the ice, the Tampa Bay Lightning are a team to be reckoned with and lifted the Stanley Cup themselves as recently as 2004.

That said, they have failed to make the grade for qualification into the postseason tournament to crown an ultimate NHL victor for the last two seasons, and will be keen to get back into the mix with a strong start this year.

Holiday makers enjoying a Gulf Coast villa break in Florida who decide to check out the Lightning may come across ThunderBug, the team's mascot.

Among their fiercest rivals are the Florida Panthers, who are based in Sunrise, just north of Miami.
