Space centre visit 'a must' on an Orlando holiday

A visit to the Kennedy Space Centre is a must for those heading off on Orlando villa holidays in Florida, according to the Mail on Sunday's travel editor.

In an article for the newspaper, Frank Barrett said there has been a sharp rise in visitor numbers to Florida's space coast this year because of the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

"An easy 60-minute drive down the Highway 528 expressway, the official tour of the launch area and other space-related exhibits is a great family outing," he remarked.

Indeed, visitors can meet and chat to real astronauts, take a tour of the Rocket Garden, watch dramatic 3D footage of space missions in the IMAX theatre or watch engineers at work as they build and maintain real space shuttles.

And, as Mr Barrett pointed out, there is much more to do and see on the space coast than the Space Centre itself.

He said families can head to Cocoa Beach to watch the surfers and spot wildlife in the surrounding Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, where bald eagles, manatees, wood storks and loggerhead turtles can be found.

Those hoping to visit the space coast could rent Orlando villas at the Tuscana Leisure Resort and rent a car.

Here, they will also be in a great location to visit some of Florida's other main attractions, such as Disney World and Universal Studios.
