See Luna the baby elephant on a Disney villa holiday

Families staying in villas near Disney World this summer will be able to pay a visit to Animal Kingdom to see the newest addition to the park's elephant herd.

A female elephant calf named Luna was born last week and weighed in at a healthy 288 pounds.

Twenty-two-year-old Donna gave birth to Luna following a 22-month pregnancy, during which she gained more than 400 pounds.

The new addition means that holiday makers staying in Disney villas can now see a herd of 13 elephants at Animal Kingdom.

Jackie Ogden, vice-president of Disney's animal programmes, said: "Elephant births are among the most amazing and complicated processes in the animal kingdom.

"A team of dedicated animal professionals have worked with the expecting mother attentively throughout the course of her pregnancy. At this point, we're optimistic for the calf's likelihood of survival and are thrilled that both Donna and her calf are doing well."

People planning Orlando villa holidays this year can see more than 1,700 animals from 250 species at the Walt Disney World Resort's Animal Kingdom.
