Sanibel Island 'a perfect day out for those on Florida holidays'

People preparing to take flights to villas in Florida have been encouraged to take some time out to visit the destination's Sanibel Island.

Renowned US travel writer Arthur Frommer has named the resort as his top place to visit across the world.

The decision means that Sanibel Island is more attractive than seeking a getaway to Bali or Paris, which ranked second and third respectively on the writer's list.

Looking into the appeal of Sanibel Island, Mr Frommer noted that the resort offers an "idyllic haven of white-sand beaches" which are paired up with "excellent restaurants" and "good shopping" opportunities.

Ric Base, president of the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce, acknowledged that the compliment is "perfect timing", considering Sanibel Island's winter high season tourism initiative gets into full swing in the weeks ahead.

Holiday makers are also in for a musical treat if they head to Florida villas in the months ahead, seeing as US rocker Lenny Kravitz and songstress Diana Ross will be performing separate gigs in the Sunshine State this February.
