Florida holidays in Orlando don't have to revolve around the theme parks and families can also discover something about the region in which they're staying.
The Orange County Regional History Centre on East Central Boulevard in Orlando is home to several exhibits which delve 12,000 years into central Florida's past.
Visitors can learn about the flora, fauna and rock formations that are unique to the Sunshine State in the natural environment area, or travel back in time and discover Native American life in pre-European Florida.
They can then find out about how the arrival of the Spanish in Florida helped to shape the US state as it is today and discover more about its huge tourism industry and its reputation for citrus growing and space exploration.
The museum also plays host to travelling exhibitions throughout the year, so visitors may wish to check what's on before they visit so they don't miss anything.
Families renting Florida villas at the Hilton Parc Soleil resort will be able to drive into Orlando to visit the attraction. With the I-4 road close by, they will also be ideally located to head to many of Orlando's theme parks.
