Rent a Gulf Coast villa and go on a ghost walk

Families may not necessarily associate ghosts and ghouls with a Florida holiday on the Gulf Coast, but those visiting in the new year can have a spooky time.

On January 29th and 30th, and February 5th and 6th, a special ghost walk will be taking place at the Koreshan State Historic Site in Estero, just outside Fort Myers.

This religious settlement once consisted of 50 buildings, although only 11 still remain, including the art hall and the bakery.

The ancient site makes for some fascinating exploration in the day, but at night it takes on a more eerie atmosphere.

Visitors can take a guided tour around the buildings and watch mini performances by actors portraying Koreshan settlers.

They will also hear some ghostly tales about the community and the people who lived there years ago.

Four walks will be organised each night and reservations are required, as space will be limited.

Those hoping to book could rent Gulf Coast villas in Fort Myers, which is just a short drive away.

Fort Myers itself has plenty to offer holiday makers, including its popular beach, where numerous events and activities are held throughout the year.
