New govt measure to simplify Florida holidays
British travellers planning Florida holidays and other breaks in the US this year will benefit from a recent measure implemented by the country's Department of Homeland Security.
Janet Napolitano, secretary of homeland security, announced last week that the I-94W arrival and departure form is being eliminated for all visitors from countries that are covered by the Visa Waiver Program, a group that includes the UK and Ireland.
Britons embarking on Florida villa holidays will no longer need to fill in the form but are still required to gain approval through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization website before setting off.
The move was welcomed by the US Travel Association, which said it would "help reduce confusion and increase the speed of processing for millions of our guests".
Roger Dow, president and chief executive of the association, said: "With full implementation of the Electronic System for Travel Authorization, the United States is proving that it can simultaneously strengthen security and improve our customers' experience.
"We will continue to work in support of Secretary Napolitano's efforts to make America's entry process both safe and welcoming."
People planning a Florida villa holiday this year can reach the destination by taking a flight to Orlando.
