Lonely Planet advises trips to Orlando in 2012

People in the UK planning out their next getaway have been encouraged to snap up villas in Florida near to Orlando.

The Sunshine State's popular resort has been listed in the seventh annual edition of the Lonely Planet's Best In Travel 2012 guide.

Ranked ninth in the list, the publication pointed out that Orlando is set to be a highlight holiday destination thanks in part to the 61st NBA All-Star Weekend in February.

Lonely Planet stated: "The hippest sporting event in the USA , it brings much of the basketball and music worlds together for slam-dunk contests, after-hours parties and concerts, as well as the all-star game itself."

Families are also encouraged to seek out the 'Milk District' of Orlando while in Florida villas, with the area home to an array of unique eateries and bars.

Of course, parents will also have the chance to treat their kids while in this resort, seeing as though Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando and the recently-opened Legoland Florida are all based there.
