Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens' attendance figures hit new record
Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens have just recorded their best attendance figures ever, those taking trips to Florida villas may want to note.
The Sunshine State's attraction saw 751,942 guests passing through its gates in the last fiscal year, which came to a close at the end of September.
First Coast News reports that this number is an increase of more than six per cent when compared to the attendance figures set between 2005 and 2006 – its previous best fiscal year.
Tony Vecchio, the executive director of Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, acknowledged that the new record is "so rewarding".
The attraction first opened its gates in 1914 with the donation of one red deer fawn, but has since grown to now house in excess of 1,800 animals and over 1,000 varieties of plants.
Families heading to the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens in the near future should keep an eye out for glimpses of the venue's history, which are to be placed around the site in the countdown to its 100th anniversary.
