Have a roaring time on a Gulf Coast holiday

All children love lions and tigers, so during a Florida villa holiday on the Gulf Coast, parents may wish to take them to the Big Cat Rescue in Tampa for a thoroughly wild day out.

This non-profit educational sanctuary provides a safe home to wild cats that have been abused, abandoned, bred as pets, retired from performing acts or saved from slaughter.

It seeks to educate visitors about the plight of big cats in the wild and teach them about the issues affecting the animals in captivity.

More than 100 feline residents live at the park, with a total of 14 species represented overall, including leopards, ocelots, bobcats and cougars.

Holiday makers can take day or night tours of the Big Cat Rescue and can even watch the creatures being fed.

Those with a real passion for animals could also book a big cat keeper tour, which will take them behind the scenes at the centre.

Families renting Gulf Coast villas in Brandenton will be able to drive to Tampa by car in around an hour to spend a day at the sanctuary.

Brandenton is also a three-hour drive from Orlando, where families will find all the top Florida theme parks and zoos.
